Football and Eddie Weekend

NFL Divisional Playoffs this weekend and Trossbach’s Family Meats are on it:

Whereas the NFL has their playoffs every year in late January, another big event that just got scheduled for Sunday is not so predictable – The Eddie.

My daughter Ryan texted me just yesterday to tell me that the event is on (click here:)

I have had this event on my Things to Do Before I Die list but concede that it’s gonna be a tough one to accomplish and I am running out of time. The Eddie Big Wave surfing competition is only held when the waves at Waimea Bay reach 20 feet or more. The last time the event was held was in 2016. If this year’s event goes off as planned, it will only be the 10th time that the Eddie has been held since it began in 1984.

As with this year, the event is only announced a day or two before it is to be held making planning to attend it a challenge to say the least. Sure wish I knew a good travel agent who could make this spur-of-the-moment trip happen. (Sarcasm font lacking, Pam would and could arrange it for me, but I have some maintenance things around the Store scheduled for the coming week and can’t get away.) Maybe next year.

But having mentioned running out of time, recognize that I have played this Stones’ tune a couple of times previously for you; so I went looking for other cover versions of it. I was surprised to learn that Mick had actually written the song for Chris Farlowe who had a No. 1 hit with it in England in 1966. Proof once again that it is what you learn after you know it all that counts.
