Twofer Tuesday – For the Birds

Orioles open the season this Thursday in Boston so quite naturally, I’m thinking about birds.

Prince’s movie Purple Rain is best known for the two songs When Doves Cry and the movie title song Purple Rain. However, it was another tune that I want to focus on and that was The Bird by Morris Day and the Time.

Here it is from the movie where the scene is a battle of the bands and Morris totally rocks it before Prince goes on:

Prince then comes on to rock the place with Purple Rain (click here.)

Of course Purple Rain also features that other bird song When Doves Cry. Prince plays all the instruments and sings all the vocals. It was his first Number 1 hit song and eventually became Billboard’s best selling single in 1984

Bet MGM has the Orioles over/under wins at 76.5. That seems a little low to me given that they won 83 last season. Think I’d have to take a little action on that. When I lose that bet, that will be “When J. Cries.”

Sad little footnote I just learned is that the Prince Estate has recently forbidden Morris Day from using that name since they supposedly own the rights to it (click here.) Go figure. Somewhere some lawyers are making a lot of money on this kind of crapola.
