I’m Only 80 But I Like It

Mick turned 80 the other day and it made me wonder if he ever got any satisfaction after all. Or better yet, did he ever get what he wanted in addition to what he needed? I could go on but you get my drift.

He crossed my mind just now as I read the following:

Here is an excerpt from that article which began by Galloway discussing Mitch McConnell’s freeze job, stroke, TIA or whatever it was that hit him at the podium the other day:

Too, this “being 80” discussion took me back to 2006 when Buzzy, then 82 years old, started having a series of medical problems. Various folks were calling and advising me that “Your Dad isn’t doing too well. You need to do something.”

Since I had recently started visiting a young Doctor from India working for the Shahs, I scheduled an appointment and took Buzzy to see him for an overall checkup. As the young Doctor did his exam, he asked Buzzy “Are there any issues that concern you?”

Buzzy responded “I can’t make change anymore.”

The young Doc looked at me and said “I have never heard of this symptom before. What does he mean?” I then told him about the Store and how Buzzy worked the counter giving people change for their purchases. The Doc said “Well, I don’t think I can do anything to help you with that. I am going to have to refer you to Dr. Shah.” (Buzzy was a patient of Dr. Shah so we made a followup appointment with him.)

Bottom line, sooner or later Father Time will take away your fast ball even if you aren’t aware that he is doing so. (The old sports adage goes “Father Time is undefeated.”) When that time arrives, you need to make a move and get off the playing field.

Or the stage as the case may be. Which brings me back to Mick. Here he is from last year’s Stones’ tour when he was “only” 79. He may, depending on Father Time, have a couple years left in him don’t you think?
