Bucket Hats – Pt.2

My previous post with the photo of Tom Corbett sporting a Buzzy’s Bucket Hat reminded me of a recent phone call I made to re-order hats.

I asked my hat supplier Buddy Barbee to include a dozen Buzzy “Gilligan Hats.” He asked me if by calling them “Gilligan” I meant “Bucket Hats.” Obviously, I was referring to these style of hats by the incorrect name for them. I responded by telling Buddy “Whatever you call them, send me a dozen.”

Following Monday night’s football game, this comment from a Commanders’ fan caught my eye and made me think “Hey maybe I’m not the only one who refers to these as Gilligan Hats.”

Speaking of Buzzy hats, I’ve been steadily going thru them to the point that I can say they are flying out the door. As of the 4th of July I had already sold out of my usual order for the season and had to call Buddy to send me some more.

Re: songs about hats, my all time favorite is Joe Cocker’s version of Randy Newman’s classic which I have featured a couple times previously here on the Buzzyblog. But check out this recent video wherein Randy talks about the differences in how Joe covered it versus his original version of the song. (Stay to the end (8:40) to hear him also discuss and eventually perform another of his classic tunes, Sail Away. Seems that when other artists covered it, they didn’t quite get the meaning of the song as he wrote and intended it.)

Still, the all time best rendition of the song has to be how it was used in this scene from 9 1/2 Weeks. Kim Basinger was the babe of all babes wasn’t she? Playboy model, Bond lady, Baldwin wife, Batman girlfriend, Eminem’s mother, Prince muse, Academy Award winner for LA Confidential, Kim did it all. And, just my opinion mind you, she should have won an award for the following:
