Today in Rock History in 1958 a group named The Champs released the instrumental Tequila. It went to Number 1 on the charts and was subsequently awarded a Grammy for Best R&B Song of the Year.
Somewhere in my rock and roll travels I had once heard that it was Glen Campbell who said “Tequila” three times in the song. However, Glen notes here (3:00 mark) that he did not get to LA until 1960 and that it was not him on the original recording of the song. (Glen was later a member of The Champs.) It was the song’s author and saxophonist Danny Flores who said “Tequila” on the recording.
This from Wiki:

After the Ravens’ debacle yesterday, think I need a shot or two or three of Tequila. My fall back, as always is – hey, it’s only rock n roll.
