Older black lady was in Buzzy’s Country Store the other day and after I had asked her how she was doing she replied “I’m old, fat and tired, but other than that I’m still moving around.”
I recognized her because she and her mother used to visit Buzzy’s periodically and Moma would always buy a bottle of Grand Marnier. Buzzy would interact with Mom and tease her about the Grand Mariner and what good medicinal properties it had. “The M stands for medicine” he would say. Moma would smile and respond with “You don’t have to tell me Buzzy.”
Later, after the two had left, Buzzy told me that the lady had been coming into the Store for years about once every six months or so to buy her bottle of GM. He said she never bought anything else and he kept it in stock mostly for her. He noted that whereas as she used to come in solo, recently she had been coming in with her daughter who was now my visitor.
Once I recognized the daughter, I mentioned how her Mom had always come into Buzzy’s for her “medicine.” She laughed and noted that her Mom always enjoyed traveling over from Calvert County to come to Buzzy’s. I responded that her Mom knew that one of the secrets to a long life was to just keep moving. She laughed and said “I agree with you, but it gets harder to do so when you’re old, fat and tired.”
That she was buying a Pepsi, it crossed my mind to suggest to her that she should be buying a bottle of Grand Marnier as her Mom had done. However, I settled instead for “You gotta move.”
NFL Championship games on at Buzzy’s starting at 3 o’clock today. Move on down the road and watch ’em at Buzzy’s!
