Top 5 Beaches

Even though I knew it was a click bait headline “Top 5 Loveliest Beaches on the East Coast”, I checked it out anyway.

Cape Hatteras in North Carolina and Coco Beach Florida were 1 and 2 respectively. However, I was pleasantly surprised to see listed as Number 3 our very own Assateague Island:

Years ago on a Ridgell family vacation to Ocean City, midweek we made a day trip down to Assateague. When we hit the beach, my kids all began to complain. “There’s nothing here.” I told them “Good. You broke the code.” (In their defense, they had been used to OC’s Boardwalk, Pier Amusement Park, miniature golf, water slides etc. and weren’t quite prepared for just beach, quiet and laid backness.)

So I ignored their complaints and settled in with my book. Eventually they began to play in the sand, dodge some waves and relax also. Turns out that I have better memories of that day than the ones that were more of a rock n roll nature. For that reason alone, I was happy to see Assateague on this list.

OK, given that he wasn’t really talking about a b-e-a-c-h as such, I heard this old tune on the radio the other day and as always it made me smile. You know what I’m taking about you “Sum beech.”
