I am currently reading and enjoying Directed by James Burrows a book my daughter Reagan gave me as a Christmas present. (And no, even though I am a somewhat slow reader, I have not been reading it since Christmas; I only got around to starting it the other day.)

Mid-way thru the book, I just got to where Burrows discusses his role in developing and directing “Cheers.” As you know, Buzzy’s has a quasi-connection with “Cheers” in that it gets compared to Cheers quite frequently. (I’ve done a couple posts on this Cheers/Buzzy connection previously – click here as well as the links below.)
Alot of the comparison has to do with the whole “you want to go where everyone knows your name” thing in Buzzy’s. Tourists, out-of-towners and visitors to Buzzy’s Country Store will often comment along the lines “Wow, this really is a place where everyone knows everyone’s name.” My response to them is usually, “Well, we’re all related because there were only two boats that first came over and one of those had the supplies.”
Music-wise, Burrows talks about how they settled on the “Everybody Knows Your Name” theme song as follows: “It knocked our socks off immediately. It was the epitome of what our show was about.”
I’ve discussed and played that tune previously, but give a listen to another song that was initially considered to be the Cheers’ theme song, but couldn’t be used because it was part of a Broadway play “Preppies.”
