Winter Woes

Of the four seasons, winter gets ranked at fifth with me. I know you are not supposed to hate things, but if pushed to list something that I hate, then winter would win the prize.

In an attempt to gain some positive perspective of winter, I went looking for some words of encouragement about surviving and even trying to enjoy it. I found all sorts of poems and advice about using the “magic of winter” as a time for introspection and reflection as we sit by the fire sipping a hot drink and wait for spring to come. I didn’t relate to any of it until I hit upon this one:

That one I can relate to. Thank you Eleanor Hammond.

Driving back and forth to Buzzy’s Country Store everyday, I use that time to look through the surrounding winter woods and see what’s to be seen without all the shrubbery and tree foliage there during other times of year. Occasionally, I will see a house or a structure back in the woods that I have never noticed previously. Here are two such places located in St. Inigoes.

My conclusion, maybe winter is good for something after all.

Speaking of looking thru things, mention of Paul yesterday made me put on some old Beatles’ tunes. The following has always been one of my favorites of theirs’ albeit in a bitter sweet kinda way. It brings up some bad memories of an ex-lover or two.

The Beatles did it as an upbeat and almost fun song (click here.) However, check out Stevie Earle’s bluegrass/mandolin take on it here and you get more of the songs’ winter cold vibe:
