So you know that Washington and Lincoln were born this month and those are the 2 Presidents we recognize and honor today. However, there were two other Presidential fellas also born in February. (Coincidentally, I have mentioned both of them in recent Buzzyblog posts. Answers* below while you think about it.)
Here is a barroom bet for you. Name the date of George Washington’s birthday? If you answered 22 February 1732, you are correct; but you are also wrong – read on:
One final bit of trivia on this subject: February is not the month with the most Presidential births. That honor goes to October and November, each with 6 Prez’s born in those months (click here.) August had 5 birthdays and then January, February, March, April and July were all tied with 4. September was the least birthday month with only one – William Taft.
* Answer – Ronald Reagan was born on 6 February and William Harrison on 9 February. Recall that it was Harrison who tried to prove that he was a macho man by giving his two hour Inauguration Speech in the cold, rainy weather without wearing an overcoat nor a hat. Subsequently, he caught pneumonia and died a few weeks after assuming office making his the shortest Presidency ever (click here.) (It calls to mind Buzzy’s take on making political appearances when he was a County Commissioner – be seen, be brief and be gone!)
Speaking of Macho Man however, there was this extravaganza performance of the tune. The video playing in “Macho Man” background is pretty good and worth a look; the second half “YMCA” portion, not so much with our boy doing that jerking-off-two-guys dance of his (4:25 mark.)
Buzzy’s Country Store is open today, so stop by for a Presidents’ Day drink or two. I am sure that the crazy ending to the Daytona 500 will also be among the topics discussed.
