The Witching Hour?

Following my comment the other day about being up at 3 a.m., a lady in Buzzy’s Country Store asked me about it and confided that she too was a 3 a.m.-er. I joked that maybe we should start a club.

She continued discussing how 3 – 4 a.m. is considered the witching hour and is often associated with supernatural events and occurrences. I told her that I try not to put too much stock in any of that stuff. When she asked why, I replied that it just sounded like something else to be worried about when I already had enough natural worries on my turntable without adding any supernatural ones to the playlist. She laughed and said “I think that’s called compartmentalization.” And after a heavy comment like that from her, I gave her my best Ridge-boy shrug and simply said “No shit.”

But her “witching hour” comments did make me do some post facto googling for info on 3 – 4 a.m. folks like us who don’t mind being up at that hour. Accordingly, I found the following collection of 3 a.m. thoughts and quotes. Here are the Top 5 listed with my caveat that the first four of these I can and do relate to:

As for Number 5, it is a total non-starter for me because there are absolutely no nights that I can see myself sitting on a rooftop talking about life, nor for that matter doing anything at all, up there. Regardless the time of day or night, I’m keeping my feet terra firma because at this point in my life, I don’t even want to be on a rooftop during the day time.

I considered playing the Drifters’ “Up on the Roof” here; but instead let’s stay with a night time tune and take a listen to this great Billy Joel tune that didn’t get much airplay but should have. Video is pretty good too! After all, it is a twofer Tuesday!
