Yesterday being the 8th day of the month, it reminded me of the copyright churn that is currently going on over the number 8.
Ravens’ Lamar Jackson has been suing Dale Jr. over the usage of Number 8 in the marketing of their merchandise. However, according to the latest reports, it sounds like they have since resolved those issues: (click here.)

But Lamar continues to be embroiled in another tiff with Troy Aikman over usage of Number 8 and that case is still pending (click here.) I would think that somewhere along the line, Ovechkin and Cal Jr. may also have some say in all this fussing over the Number 8.
Silly kiddies’ joke for you – “Why did the two fours skip a meal? Because they already eight.”)
And since I am wandering around in the land of numerology, here is a semi-related incident that went down just last week for me.
I had to fast one morning in order to have some bloodwork done one month before my hernia surgery scheduled the first of May. This was part of my pre-op visit with my GP and I had to fast before my 11:30 appointment. Thus, I was somewhat hungry and coffeed out following my appointment.
On my trek down to the Store, I stopped in Sheetz to get my coffee and breakfast fix. The young clerk at the register informed that the two items I had secured cost $9.09 and without thinking about whom I was addressing, I commented “Awright, old Beatles song, “The One After 909.”
Not saying a word, the kid took my $10 bill and just looked very quizzically at me like the crazy old man that I am and gave me back my change. I started to followup and explain to him that this was an early Beatles’ tune and one of the first ever that Lennon and McCartney wrote together. However, I ultimately decided “Why even waste my breath and time trying to explain this to the kid?” I took my change and headed out, but as I did so was humming “Move over once, move over twice, come on baby don’t be cold as ice…..”
So how is all this even remotely related to Lamar Jackson’s fighting others and going after the usage of the Number 8? Very simple, in Ridge-boy ad-reductio logic – the number 9 is the one after 8! Get it? I thought that you would.
I own just about every Beatles’ album save for their Anthology series which I considered to be just a money grab. The Buzzy in me would not let me plunk down good money for a bunch of old demo’s and rejected outtakes of their songs. I recall my buddy Tim Hewitt telling me how he had purchased the Anthology boxset and as he listened to it, kept asking himself “Why did I even buy this?”
However, I may have to now spring for it, just because I like the way this early version of “The One After 909” sounds more so than I care for the finished version on their “Let It Be” album. (There is no “Danny Boy” clowning around at the end of this version.)
