Newtowne Players are currently presenting the play Pride and Prejudice at Lexington Park’s Three Notch Theater (the old library for you folks of a certain age.) Their play runs thru May 17th, Thursdays thru Sundays. Other details follow:

Any mention of local theater always reminds of my friend Connie Lynch telling me several years ago how excellent our local theater performances were. As a Navy wife, Connie had traveled around the Country and she noted that we were very blessed to have the quality of performances that we have here in the County. I thanked her for pointing out something that I had never realized and did take for granted.

In addition to the Newtowne Players, we also have just up the road in La Plata, the Port Tobacco Players. They have this scheduled for later in the month:

PORT TOBACCO PLAYERS – Port Tobacco Players

Connie also praised the St. Mary’s County Recreation and Parks’ Summerstock productions. This year will mark their 44th production as they will present the musical Frozen:

I plan to do a future Buzzy Podcast with Art Shepherd who was very instrumental in starting up Summerstock and making it as successful as it has been through these many years. Look for that in a couple of weeks.

Another theatrical venue we have access to is St. Mary’s College Theater, Dance and Performance Arts Department presenting plays, recitals etc. throughout the year. Here is something that they have planned for June.

Music and play-wise, I still get choked up and teary eyed re-watching this final scene from the movie Hamnet. It is easy to see how and why Jessie Buckley won the Academy Award for Best Actress. Max Richter is a British born composer and writer of movie scores. His tune here nails it as the mom finally finds some relief after the death of her son. “The rest is silence.”
