Pt. Lookout Prison

Bob Crickenberger, Head of the Friends of Point Lookout will be discussing his 30-years-in-the-making-book on Point Lookout Prison this evening at the Governmental Center in Leonardtown. I just finished reading it and was amazed at all of the research that Bob did for the book and how well documented it is. I also learned quite a lot about the history of the Prison, how it came to be and how awful life was in the Prison.

As stated, Bob, will be speaking on these and other Pt. Lookout-related topics later today at the Chesapeake Building at 6:00 pm.

That Bob signed my copy of his book on my 75th birthday date was also a very nice coincidence! (My thanks to Pt. Lookout Park Ranger Sam Behrens for getting Bob’s book to me.)

Chief Larry and I have Bob scheduled for an upcoming Buzzy Podcast so stay tuned for that interview.

Music-wise, I was stocking the beer case in Buzzy’s Country Store the other day listening to a review of Southern Rock on the radio when the following tune played. I immediately turned it up as I thought to myself “Man, this was a great f’ing song!” I later found this video of Wet Willie performing it on the T-V show Midnight Special in 1974:

That is Jimmy Hall singing lead along with his brother Jack playing bass guitar. Their sister Donna Hall joins Ella Brown Avery as their backup singers (4:00.) (I’ll leave it to you to figure out who is Donna and who is Ella.)

Jimmy later sang lead on Blackberry Smoke’s cover of the tune. Keep on rockin’ Jimmy! Stay to the end (5:00) for a great outro. That is Sherie and Sherita Murphy aka the Black Bettys singing backup.
