Subtitle: Ok, I Got Some Splaining To Do.
Last Sunday afternoon I got a call from my buddy Dickie Cullison who asked me if the Buzzy Car Show was going on. After I said yes, Dickie proceeded, in typical Dickie-fashion, to jack me up for not telling him about it. I apologized to him and begged off by saying “Dickie, I didn’t really tell anybody about it this year.” To which Dickie said “J. That makes absolutely no f’ing sense at all. Why the hell would you have something and not tell anybody about it? But I’ll be there in a couple of minutes anyway.”
Fact is I purposely did not play up this year’s car show just because I wanted it to be a more low keyed and laid back affair than has been these past couple years. The Buzzy Car Show in the past couple years has gotten to be a whole lot more than I’d ever anticipated or wanted it to be. For instance, the lady with the helicopter who literally dropped into last year’s show, wanted to come back again this year.
In previous years, I’d find myself worrying about and stressing out over the show not only before it went down but in particular on the day of the show when all the “activities” happened. At some point in the proceedings, with the Fire Department truck out in the road, the police in the parking lot and folks calling me on the phone wondering what’s going on at the Store because they had heard something on the police scanner, I’d ask myself “Why am I doing this?” Of course business-wise it is a great day and that is cool. However, I’ve found that at this point in my life I’m looking to minimize and eliminate anything stressful. I debated about even having a show at all this year.
Thus, trying to keep it as low keyed as possible, I only invited a half a dozen or so folks to bring their cars down this past Sunday and then I said nothing nor did anything else to publicize it. When friends in the Store asked me about it I called it “The Buzzy Non-Car Show.”
As it turned out, Dickie did make it down, things went well and I actually enjoyed the Car Show for a change. My thanks to all those who brought their cars, trucks and bikes to display them in the Buzzy parking lot and to Cathy Wright for minding the counter for me while I took some photos and videos some of which are shown here.
