Summer Solstice Today

Summer solstice today, so consider this your invitation to come sit on Buzzy’s front porch a spell and enjoy the longest day of the year. Found this little depiction of how and why the solstice does what it does:

The Solstice always reminds me of when Dad and I visited Stonehenge in 98. We were on a Perillo Tour of London and had an “afternoon of leisure” which is tour code lingo for “You’re on your own.” So we rented a car and drove the 2 hours southwest to check out Stonehenge. Here are a couple of photos we took of each other when we arrived there.

Me Leaning Left As Usual

Here is a good video on this year’s event:

Stonehenge is located on what is called the Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire, England. Just down the road from there is Somerset, England with its Solsbury Hill where Peter Gabriel wrote the song by that title. (Note that while Buzzy never once said anything like this to me, for some crazy reason, I always think of him whenever I hear the line “Son, grab your things, I’ve come to take you home.” I’d like to think that it was when he came to bail me out of jail that he said something like this to me. However I distinctly recall him saying “This is the last time I’m coming up here to bail your dumbass out. Next time, you’re staying in here.” Talk about my heart going boom, boom, boom.
