Get Out

Springtime really is the best time to get out and do some things. To guide you in that, here is the excellent website Visit St. Mary’s. It helps you plan out those things to do and places to visit all within a short distance from your home. Why drive a couple hours to do some sightseeing and check things out when we have so much to see and do right here in our own backyard!

Through the years I have had the pleasure of hosting visits by many County folks who bring their out-of-town guests to Buzzy’s Country Store. I always joke with and tease these folks that they didn’t know what to do with their guests so they brought them to Buzzy’s to kill some time. Folks will laugh and confess “You know you’re kinda right, because we really didn’t know what to do or where to take them. But we knew they’d like Buzzy’s because everybody here is so friendly. Plus they can enjoy a drink or two.”

Having nice restaurants like Courtney’s and Pier 450 in South County is also on the list of things to do with guests. (It may or may not have something to do with that etiquette thing of guests taking their hosts out to dinner when staying with them.)

But back to Visit St. Mary’s website, I check it out each Friday and try to focus on South County events such as these two featured this weekend:

Of course a ride down to Pt. Lookout State Park is always a worthwhile side trip particularly now with the camp site and picnic areas closed due to construction projects currently underway. It is kinda like it used to be back in the old days, you literally have the place all to yourself. I tell folks who are heading that way “While it is not the end of the world, you can see it from there.” Here are some nice comments on Pt. Lookout from the lady whose photo I posted above.

Nice lighthouse-related video and tune for you here even if the tale itself is a little on the sad side of the ledger. Then again, maybe it has something to do with lighthouses and all those ghosts floating around in them.
