Hit the Wall?

In looking for twofer photos the other day I considered using this one I took of Herbie and JW at Camden Yards a couple weeks ago.

However, I passed on using it because I didn’t care for the distraction of the lady in the background taking a photo of the Warehouse Wall. Thus, I did not include Herbie and JW in Tuesday’s post.

Well, that was then and this is now, because today I want to focus on and discuss just why the lady was back there taking that photo.

While we were sitting there sampling some of Boog’s barbecue, the lady and several other folks stopped to photograph the following attached to the wall:

All this came to my mind yesterday when Mr. Jackson Holliday put it on the Street (as in Eutaw Street) and hit his first Orioles’ homer, a Grand Slam. Check it out here:

While Jackson came close to hitting the wall, he still fell a little short. Griffey remains the only batter to have ever hit the wall and he did so during batting practice. With Camden having been around now since 1992, it’s kind of remarkable that no one has hit the wall during a game. I found this video discussing why hitting the Camden wall is so tough to do.

Note – as for mysteries, I don’t know how or why that “Smoke weed everyday” got interjected at the 3:35 mark in this video. When I first heard it, I was a little spooked as in “Where’d that come from?” I replayed it just to ensure that I wasn’t imagining hearing it. (And no, I was not under the influence of anything drug-related as I listened to this. I would say that it’s very weird, but I don’t want to run into any political walls here.)

Then too, all of this got me wondering just where the “hit the wall’ expression came from (click here.) The following excerpt from that linked article states that it is thought to be American originated. Seems to me that China or Berlin, with their walled histories, would have been the originators but who knows?

To conclude (yeah I hit the old Buzzy blogpost wall) I have told this joke a couple times previously, but can’t resist repeating it as a lead in to a song: What do Dale Earnhardt and Pink Floyd have in common? Their last big hit was The Wall.

And speaking of JW, this coming Saturday, we will be celebrating his birthday (along with Rita Weaver’s and Karen Leach’s) at Buzzy’s Country Store starting around 3 p.m.. Put it on your calendars and plan on dropping in.

And of course, we have a number of other August events in the extended Buzzy family:

Richard (Dickie) Cullison celebrates his birthday today. (Dickie came thru his surgery yesterday and is doing well. Plans are for him to return to the County and rehab in Charlotte Hall Veterans Home.) As I mentioned above, Cousin Johnny (JW) Raley, Karen Leach, and Rita Weaver, along with CJ Little and Ted Yeatman all celebrate birthdays on the 3rd; Bobbi Jo Magee on 5 Aug; my Grandson Stone Ridgell turns 5 on the 8th; Peggy Binzel on the 15th; Lorie Raley the 17th; Cathy Wright the 20th; Gary Wood the 25th, my son Brady also on the 25th and Brother-in-law Dan Hofmeister on the 26th. Wedding anniversaries are celebrated by my in-laws Stella and Sol Aroesty on the 8th; Marylou and Jimmy Cullison celebrate their’s on the 29th.
