It’s A Comin’

Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, the main topic of conversation in Buzzy’s Country Store has been the weather forecast of a major snow storm for this coming weekend. As with many of the conversations in Buzzy’s, I tried to refrain from joining in because I have a three day weather rule of paying no attention to any forecast that is farther than three days away.

Well, with today being Thursday and Saturday being forecasted as “S Day” as in the shit is gonna hit Saturday night, I guess it really is time for me to start paying attention. Too, all three of the weather models are currently predicting significant snow (6 inches or more and please, no “what-she-said” jokes) for us this weekend.

Quick aside here – on the subject of weather models, shouldn’t someone get involved to Make the American Model great again assuming that it ever was? Everyone seems to concede that the European model is typically more accurate and better than our American model (click here.) What is the problem here? Can an Executive Order outlawing the European Model be far off?

As for prepping for this snowzilla, you know the drill, rush out to the grocery and/or liquor stores to stock up on whatever it is you need to get you through. Buzzy’s may or may not be open Sunday. As my Mom used to say “We’ll see.”

On a musical note, John’s “Imagine” is usually cited as his biggest and best tune but not for me. Imagine is ok, but it is not even in my Top 5 list of favorites of his. Beautiful Boy, Watching the Wheels Go Round, Instant Karma, Nobody Told Me and the following tune all are ahead of Imagine which I think is a little on the sappy side of the rock n roll ledger. However, the following is alright. (I am not real sure who is playing sax here in this video at an Elton MSG concert, but it was Bobby Keys who did the sax solo on John’s original studio recording.

P.S. Funny story about Bobby and his relationship with Mick. Bobby was Mick’s best man when he married Bianca in 1971. However, shortly thereafter, they had a falling out as follows:

Mick and Bobby eventually patched things up and Bobby continued playing with the Stones on various tours until his passing in 2014 due to having liver cancer. On classic Stones tunes like Brown Sugar, Can’t You Hear Me Knocking and Rip This Joint that is Bobby who did the sax solos.

One final footnote, believe it or not – Bobby and I have something in common. Both of our Dads were in the US Army Air Force before it became the US Air Force in 1947. Bobby was born at Lubbock Army Airfield, Slaton, Texas in 1946; I was born at Vance Air Force Base, Enid Oklahoma in 1951. There is one major dissimilarity between us: I have never had any Dom Perignon, much less put any of it in a bath tub and try to drink it up. Now, if we are talking Budweiser……
